Bio

Fruitfly is an emo band still trying to figure out how to write emo songs based out of Cleveland, Ohio. Combining disparate influences from solo bedroom acts like Dayglow and Car Seat Headrest to emo acts like The Brave Little Abacus and Weatherday, Fruitfly's music pairs melancholic lyrics with intricate instrumentals to make a compelling new sound.

Fruitfly began as frontman Kyle Thompson's solo project in 2020 and he recorded and self-released Fruitfly's debut album Running On Fumes in July of 2021. In the time since, the project has grown into a five piece band gigging across the Cleveland/Akron area playing energetic sets that switch on a dime between blistering bangers and introspective ballads at venues including The Grog Shop, The Outpost, No Class, and multiple DIY venues. The band is aiming to release their second album, When the Weather is Nice, in early/mid 2023.

"There is a moment when the hyper emotionality calms down for the pre-requisite build up and big eruption, and big it is... and glorious like a crowd pleasing resolution of a teen movie. Even though I knew it was coming I enjoyed it just the same. There is something jubilant about Thompson's overall aesthetic, the way he attacks his art and it pulls you in." - American Pancake

"Fruitfly deal in reality rather than fantasy. They have hints of jazz influences here and there but otherwise this is bedroom creativity that needed to get a real world airing. Interesting and I'm sure cathartic it shows that this act has now blown the cobwebs and will next attend to blowing our minds."" - mp3hugger
